Cuban Documentary Film:  “Power of the Weak” available to NNOC members
March 7,2016
Dear NNOC Member Organizations,

We are writing to you to let you know that we have received 100 copies of the Cuban documentary film, “The Power of The Weak”, which features Jorgito Jerez, a young Cuban with cerebral palsy who, with the educational and medical support offered to him in Cuba,  has become fully functioning, productive, and a  compelling spokesperson for Cuba.

The film-maker, Tobias Kriele, and Jorgito, will be in the United States in April, 2016 for two weeks. Jorgito’s time is limited because he is a full time student and can only stay in the U.S. for a short period of time. The Women’s Press Collective based in New York is the group organizing the tour, and they are working closely with the NNOC.  The film will be shown mostly in the New York area and then for a few days in Washington DC during the 2nd International Committee’s Days of Action.  Those of you who attended the fall 2016 National Network on Cuba meeting in Washington DC may recall ICAP President Kenia Serrano enthusiastically recommending the film.

Tobias Kriele has been in touch with Alicia Jrapko, one of the NNOC co-chairs and mailed the copies to her. He conveyed to her that a small donation for the film will be very helpful to help cover travel expenses for him and Jorgito.

We would like to offer a copy to NNOC member organizations with the idea that this educational film be shown to college students, health care advocacy groups, and any community that could benefit by learning how both the health care system and the educational system in Cuba does not leave anybody behind.

If you would like a copy of the documentary, please send a check for $20 (shipping included in the $20) made out to the International Committee and mail it to : P.O. Box 22455, Oakland, CA 94609 and we will send the video to you.

Please let us know how the film was received in your cities and any other ideas for making sure that this documentary is widely seen.

In Solidarity,
NNOC Co-Chairs
