Explore Cuban sustainable agriculture, local food production, and the culture of Cuba

What We Will Do–
Visit small farms and gardens where farmers will explain their work. We’ll visit urban food production centers (Havana has 2 million people, and 80% of fresh food is grown inside and within 5 km of the city)
We’ll visit farm co-ops and learn about the ways food production and distribution is supported by Cuban government and civil society.
We’ll be in Havana and out in the surrounding countryside — talking to agronomists and ‘everyday’ farmers of their work and lives.
We’ll learn how Cuba prepares for hurricanes, drought and other forms of ‘extreme weather’.
We’ll visit museums, but also the homes of artists. We’ll attend performances, but also have an opportunity to discuss with artists about their work and life. Cuban culture is rich and famous — let us know which particular part you want to experience.
We’ll stay and have many of our meals at the Martin Luther King Center, an ecumenical Center in the midst of a working class part of Havana. Rooms will be double occupancy.
Cost will be $2,000 plus airfare (Havana-NYC). This will cover food and lodging, services of a translator, transportation within Cuba, and health insurance while in Cuba.
A $300 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of signing up, and the balance is due by January 1, 2018. IFCO will make travel arrangements, and arrange for visas and all necessary documents.
