There are very few comparative studies related to the quality or inefficiency of police forces worldwide. One of the most recent was carried out in 2016 by the International Police Science Association (IPSA).

It is important to say that, although the current context is different from four years ago and is marked by social contradictions in various nations, the IPSA investigation provides important data and reveals the worst police forces at the international level.

According to this analysis, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Moldova and Kosovo have deficient police forces in the old continent, although the actions of the French forces in the face of the protests of the “yellow vests” showed their violent and repressive character.

The Spanish security forces, which have been seen to act with excessive rigor against protesters on the peninsula, are not far behind.

The IPSA investigation further adds that arbitrary and massive arrests of Palestinians are commonplace in Israel.

The World Police and Internal Security Index, 2016 (Wispi in English), places Mexico in 118th place out of 127 countries evaluated in terms of performance and effective service provision of their police forces.

The Bolivian Police, under the coup government of Áñez, has stood out for the brutality in their actions, for their participation in massacres such as Senkata’s and for the corruption of their troops.

According to the Colombian Police itself, one of the most worrisome acts of corruption for that body is the inclusion of uniformed men on the payroll of large criminal networks, the same uniformed men collect extortion from the population. According to a report from the Prosecutor’s Office, 2,488 police officers were investigated in the country in 2018 for acts of corruption, kidnappings, disappearances, false positives, etc.

In Chile, the Police are highly violent and violate human rights, which has gone almost completely unpunished.

A study recently published by the World Population Review, lists a list of the countries with the most killings by law enforcement agencies.

In the first place is Brazil, where during 2018 6,160 people died at the hands of the police.

In the United States, police shot and killed 1,099 citizens in 2019, according to The Washington Post’s database. So far in 2020 there are already several murders, including that of George Floyd, which caused a wave of protests against police violence.

In Cuba, the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), which has been the object of discrediting campaigns these days, is not on any of these lists. No Cuban feels fear in the presence of a PNR officer.
