New York, Mar 25 (Prensa Latina) Activists from more than 20 states in the United States and Canadian provinces that participate in a meeting of solidarity with Cuba condemned today the US blockade against Cuba.The two-day meeting in New York has as main target to boost normalization of ties between Cuba and the United States, for which is needed to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade lasting more than 50 years.
Ike Nahem, one of the organizers of the event, told the Prensa Latina news agency that there cannot be normalization with those sanctions, while referring also to obstacles such as the occupation of Cuban territory with the US Naval Base in Guantanamo and the programs fostered to change the management in Cuba.
According to Nahem, the meeting is expected to reach agreements like the support for the initiatives in the US Congress to lift the blockade and the ban on US citizens to visit Cuba.
Meanwhile, Andres Gomez, national coordinator of the Brigade Antonio Maceo, described the meeting in New York as an important event for reiterating the commitment to fight against the blockade.
‘From the brigade, which will turn into 40th years, and from the Alianza Martiana, a coalition of Cuban immigration organizations supporting the revolutionary process began in 1959, we support the normalization of ties, but firstly, the blockade must end,’ he said.
The Afro-American descendant and social fighter Brother Chep, from the organization Cuba Si, agreed on the importance of lifting the US economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba, as a key step to boost normal ties.
