STEPHEN KIMBER, an award-winning writer, editor, broadcaster, and educator , is the author of 14 books, including two novels and 12 works of nonfiction. His nonfiction book—What Lies Across the Water: The Real Story of the Cuban Five—was long-listed for the Canadian Booksellers Association’s Libris Award as “Nonfiction Book of the Year,” won the 2014 Evelyn Richardson Award for Nonfiction, and the Cuban Institute of the Book 2016 “Reader’s Choice Award.” His 2020 novel, The Sweetness in the Lime, is partly set in Havana. A journalist for 50 years, he was a professor in the School of Journalism at the University of King’s College in Halifax and co-founded the King’s MFA in Creative Nonfiction program. In 2023, he was appointed to the Order of Nova Scotia, the province’s highest honour, for his contributions to journalism and education.

Bill Hackwell is a photojournalist and editor of Resumen Latinoamericano in the US. (Resumen-english.org) He was an early organizer in the struggle to free the Cuban 5 and founded the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban 5 along with Alicia Jrapko. They had the honor of visiting Gerardo Hernandez, a member of the Cuban 5, over one hundred times in federal prisons in California from 2002 until he was freed in 2014.

Rob Miller became involved with Cuba in 1978 as a UK delegate to the World Festival of Youth and Students. Rob began working for CSC in 1996 and has led the Campaign since then. CSC now has over 500 affiliated organizations and 4000 members across the country.

Tamara Hansen, Coordinator of Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba. Author of “5 Decades of the Cuban Revolution: the Challenges of an unwavering leadership”. Founder and organizer with the US-Cuba Normalization Conference Coalition. Tamara got involved in the struggle to free the Cuban 5 in 2003 and was part of organizing 110 monthly picket actions in front of the US Consulate in Vancouver demanding freedom for all 5 of our Cuban heroes
