Quito, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) The committee in charge of awarding the Nobel Peace Prize admitted requests from Ecuadorian assembly members to award the Cuban doctors who are currently fighting the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide.
The requests were sent through some letters written by Ecuadorian lawmakers Juan Jorge Cardenas (province of Cañar) and Liliana Duran, member of the Commission of Biodiversity and Natural Resources.
‘I consider that, whether the Cuban Medical Brigade is awarded this honorable prize, it would be acting with total justice and deep attachment to the principles which the distinguished Committee you chair is based on,’ Cardenas stated in his letter sent to Berit Reis-Andersen, president of the Norwegian Committee in charge of defining the Nobel Prize-winners.
In the letter, Juan Jorge Cárdenas pointed out that despite damages caused by the economic, financial and commercial US blockade against Cuba for six decades, Cuba has not hesitated to offer its solidarity aid to needy nations, through the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade specialized in epidemic and disaster cases.
