Centenary of Fidel Brigade: 150 Brigadistas. Two Weeks. One Mission.
The Venceremos Brigade and National Network on Cuba are jointly organizing a historic mobilization: 150 people traveling to Cuba from August 1-15, 2026 to commemorate the 100th birthday of Comandante Fidel Castro Ruz.
The National Network on Cuba is a coalition of more than 65 social justice organizations across the U.S. and its territories, united to end the U.S. blockade. The Venceremos Brigade has been building people-to-people solidarity since 1969. Together, we’re strengthening the U.S.-Cuba solidarity movement. Steel sharpens steel.
Why This Brigade Matters Right Now
The U.S. is waging an all-out assault on Cuba. A naval blockade is cutting off fuel. Hospitals are dark. Families face daily blackouts, shortages of food and medicine, and 60-plus years of economic warfare. Cuba remains on an unjust “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list that blocks humanitarian aid and punishes ordinary Cubans.
And yet Cuba resists. Communities organize. Doctors keep serving. The same revolution that sends medical brigades across the globe and stands with Palestine refuses to break. If Cuba can hold the line, we can show up for Cuba.
What We’ll Do Together
- Celebrate Fidel’s 100th with comrades who fought alongside him
- Engage in solidarity labor alongside Cuban workers
- Meet revolutionary heroes and community organizers
- Learn about Cuba’s fight against the blockade, its campaign to eliminate racism, and its internationalist medical missions
- Deliver material aid we’ve raised and collected together
Who We’re Looking For
We’re recruiting a broad and politically diverse group of brigadistas united by curiosity about the Cuban Revolution and alignment with VB’s points of unity and our community agreements. All are welcome: Seasoned friends of Cuba, first-timers, and folks who are curious and ready to learn.
We especially encourage:
- African/Black, Indigenous, Palestinian, and all people of color
- Families with children
- Queer and trans comrades
- Elders and youth
- Workers, artists, students, organizers of all kinds
The Commitment
Accepted applicants complete three mandatory pre-departure brigadista prep sessions. These sessions cover Cuban history, transformative justice, legal preparation, and liberatory culture. They’re designed to be accessible to “regular degular” people, not just committed communists or anti-imperialists. We balance openness (meeting people where they are) with political clarity (bringing them along).
Brigadistas are also expected to fundraise for their travel costs and collect material aid for our Cuban hosts. This is a collective experience. We prepare together, travel together, and return together.
