Dear NNOC Friends,
Today, as it has every year for the past 25 consecutive years, the United Nations has condemned the United States blockade of Cuba. Today for the first time in 25 years, the United States has abstained from voting against the resolution. The final vote total is 191 in favor of the resolution, with 2 abstentions, United States and Israel. Not one country opposed the resolution. The resolution titled: “Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” outlines the monetary and humanitarian damages of the unilateral U.S. policy.
This year as in the past the voices of the worldwide community supported the resolution with speaker after speaker recognizing Cuba’s contributions in medical assistance, in promoting regional stability, and expressing solidarity with the government and people of Cuba while condemning the unlawful and extraterritorial nature of the blockade and noting the harm done to the development of the Cuban economy and negative impact on the Cuban people.
Despite the steps taken since December 17, 2014, the U.S. travel ban and economic blockade remain legislatively intact. The United States has imposed multi-million dollar fines on financial institutions doing business with Cuba, the United States has threatened to revoke the tax exempt status of IFCO/Pastors for Peace; a significant and dangerous prosecution of travel to Cuba is right now moving through the United States (OFAC) judicial process.
The National Network On Cuba congratulates the Cuban people, its government and its institutions for the immense victory of today.
We call on NNOC members to demand that U.S. Congress, Treasury, State, and Justice Departments recognize and respect the rights of the Cuban people to choose their own system unimpeded by outside efforts to destroy and subvert their revolution. We continue the call for Congress to adhere to the wishes of the majority of the U.S. people and lift the travel ban, end the economic blockade, return the illegally occupied land in Guantanamo, and truly normalize relations.

Estimados amigos de la Red de Solidaridad con Cuba (NNOC) en Estados Unidos.
Hoy, como ha venido sucediendo durante los últimos 25 años consecutivos, las Naciones Unidas ha condenado el bloqueo de Estados Unidos hacia Cuba. Hoy por primera vez desde 1992, ningún país se opuso a la resolución, Estados Unidos e Israel se abstuvieron. La votación final fue de 191 a favor de la resolución, ningún voto en contra y 2 abstenciones. La resolución titulada: “Necesidad de poner fin al bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero impuesto por los Estados Unidos de América contra Cuba” describe los daños monetarios y humanitarios de la política unilateral de Estados Unidos.
Este año al igual que el año pasado, voces de la comunidad internacional apoyaron la resolución. Oradores tras oradores reconocieron los aportes de Cuba en la asistencia médica, en promover la estabilidad regional y expresaron su solidaridad con el gobierno y el pueblo de Cuba, al mismo tiempo que condenaron la naturaleza ilegal y extraterritorial del bloqueo y mencionaron el daño causado al desarrollo de la economía cubana y el impacto negativo sobre el pueblo cubano.
A pesar de las medidas adoptadas a partir del 17 de diciembre de 2014, la prohibición de viajar a Cuba por parte de ciudadanos estadounidenses y el bloqueo económico permanecen legislativamente intactos. Estados Unidos ha impuesto multas millonarias a instituciones financieras que hacen negocios con Cuba, Estados Unidos ha amenazado con revocar el estatus de organización libre de impuestos a IFCO/Pastores por la Paz; y una significativa y peligrosa persecución por viajar a Cuba está avanzando a través de un proceso judicial iniciado por la Oficina de Control de Activos Extranjeros de EEUU (OFAC por sus siglas en ingles).
La Red Nacional de Solidaridad con Cuba felicita al pueblo Cubano, su gobierno e instituciones por la inmensa Victoria de hoy.
Instamos a los miembros de la Red (NNOC) a exigir al Congreso, a los Departamentos del Tesoro, de Estado y de Justicia de Estados Unidos reconocer y respetar los derechos de los cubanos a elegir su propio sistema rechazando los planes injerencistas que tratan de destruir y subvertir la Revolución Cubana. Seguimos haciendo un llamando al Congreso para que respete los deseos de la mayoría del pueblo estadounidense y ponga fin a la prohibición de viajes, termine con el bloqueo económico, devuelva a Cuba el territorio ilegalmente ocupado por la Base Naval de Guantánamo y verdaderamente normalice las relaciones entre ambos países.
Nuevamente los invitamos a participar en la Reunión Anual de la Red (NNOC) en Chicago, Illinois del 18 al 20 de noviembre junto a nuestros amigos del Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos (ICAP). Traigan con Uds. energía e ideas sobre cómo cambiar la política estadounidense hacia Cuba y para que de una vez por todas EEUU ponga fin al bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero contra Cuba.
