Gambia Expresses Gratitude for Cuban Cooperation in Health
HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 8 (ACN) The Minister of Health and Social Wellbeing of the Republic of Gambia, Dr. Isatour Touray expressed gratitude to Cuba for the important contribution to the health system of the African nation.
According to the Cubaminrex website, the statement was made during a courtesy visit of the Cuban Ambassador Lazaro Herrera on occasion of the recent announcement to the post of the Gambian Minister.
The Gambian Health Minister highly valued the Cuban solidarity gesture for over two decades and reaffirmed his country’s interest in continuing to reinforce the friendship and cooperation ties with the Caribbean island.
The encounter, held at the headquarters of the Gambian Ministry of Health and Wellbeing served to review the state of relations between both countries.
Special attention was given to the work of the Cuban internationalist medical brigade that has contributed in saving thousands of lives in the small West African nation, which obtained its independence from Britain in 1965.
Both sides also reaffirmed the joint commitment in searching for new ways to continue strengthening the friendship ties between Cuba and Gambia which maintain diplomatic relations since May 19th, 1979.
