The National Network on Cuba fiercely denounces the armed incursion this morning by a Florida-registered speedboat in Cuban territorial waters near Falcones Cay, Villa Clara province, and the subsequent attack on Cuban Border Guard personnel.
We unequivocally condemn this act of aggression. Armed provocations against a sovereign nation endanger lives, embolden reckless actors, escalate tensions in the Caribbean, and undermine regional stability.
This incident must be understood within the broader context of more than six decades of U.S. hostility toward Cuba, which has deliberately strangled Cuba’s access to fuel, banking, and global trade in an effort to force political surrender.
In addition to the ongoing economic blockade, Washington’s oil blockade, “maximum pressure” strategy, and Cuba’s unjust placement on the so-called State Sponsors of Terrorism list have fostered increased instability and severely punishes the Cuban people.
Cuba has the right to defend its territorial waters and protect its sovereignty.
The continued designation of Cuba on the SSOT list restricts access to basic resources, and disrupts the import of fuel and medicine. It deepens hardship for ordinary families by disrupting banking systems and humanitarian trade, and it heightens tensions rather than promoting peace.
The National Network on Cuba calls for:
- Immediate removal of Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list
- An end to the U.S. economic blockade against Cuba
- Respect for Cuban sovereignty and international law
- De-escalation through diplomacy and normalization
Peace in the region requires cooperation, not coercion!
