US government suspends private charter flights to Cuba in another twist to the blockade

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has just announced that he has given orders to the Department of Transportation to suspend private charter flights between the United States and Cuba.
The measure is a new twist to the genocidal US blockade against the Caribbean nation and a sample of the political irrationality of the White House, at a time when humanity demands the end of punitive measures so that countries can count on resources to confront the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
Pompeo, one of the leaders of the aggressive actions against Cuba, argued in a tweet, like a scratched record, that Cuba uses the funds obtained from tourism and travel to finance “its abuses and interference in Venezuela.”
The decision is part of the Trump administration’s efforts to mobilize anti-Cuban sectors in Florida, given the drop in the electoral polls that the president suffers in that southern state, one of the ones that contributes the most electoral votes.
