Cuba denounces the US hostility and new aggressions

Havana, Apr 30 (ACN) Cuba denounced to the World Trade Organization (WTO) the hostility of the United States against the island and the imposition of new aggressive measures aimed at intensifying the blockade, diplomatic sources informed today, according to a dispatch of Prensa Latina dated in Geneva.
“These are actions (…) whose fundamental purpose is to impose colonial tutelage over Cuba,” said the ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Pedro Luis Pedroso, when speaking at the meeting of the WTO Committee on Trade and Development, in session dedicated to small and vulnerable economies.
The diplomat recalled that recently the US government announced the activation of new measures to intensify the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against Cuba almost 60 years ago.
This is in particular the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, which will allow US courts to file lawsuits against Cuban and foreign entities, even though they are outside the jurisdiction of the United States.
This constitutes a legal aberration, he denounced, and he recalled that until now the successive US governments had suspended the application of that clause, including that of Donald Trump in his first two years in office.
They are actions contemplated in the Helms-Burton law that have been rejected by the international community for a long time and our people repudiated since its enactment and application in 1996, and whose fundamental purpose is to impose colonial tutelage on Cuba, deplored.
According to the ambassador, all these provisions and those that additionally make up the legal framework of the blockade “hinder the normal behavior of my country’s trade and harm third countries that wish to trade with Cuba in clear violation of the rules established in the WTO” .
Regrettably, he added that “this type of measures, rejected by the vast majority of the international community, are on the rise in an international context in which some want to trample multilateralism and return to the law of the jungle, accentuating the difficulties they suffer countries that, like mine, are small and vulnerable economies “.
After recalling that Cuba advocates a multilateral trading system based on rules and respectful of the sovereign decision of each State to choose its economic and social development system, he called “to stop the irrational escalation and the policy of hostility and aggression turned into war economic against my country and also against other countries. ”
