Cuba protects women from the economic consequences of COVID-19
HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 12 (ACN) The Cuban State guarantees equal opportunities, said today the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, when analyzing the economic effects of COVID-19 on gender.
Rodriguez expressed on Twitter that according to the United Nations, the pandemic causes 66 percent of women to suffer a reduction in their savings, investments and properties, compared to 54 percent of men.
In that sense, he affirmed that his country guarantees equal opportunities and that Cuban women enjoy economic and physical autonomy and participate in decision-making.
The Cuban FM has stressed on previous occasions that Cuban women are active subjects of rights and protagonists of the social process in the country.
According to official sources, women represent 53.22 percent of Parliament in Cuba and 62.8 percent of professionals and technicians.
The fight for equality in Cuba has counted on the political will of the government and the Communist Party, as well as the permanent work of the Cuban Women Federation, an organization that will turn 60 next August 23.
