Moscow, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Raul Castro honored today the memory of the Soviets fallen during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), in an official ceremony in the Russian capital, as part of his visit.

Raul Castro arrived in Moscow on May 5, fulfilling an invitation by his Russian peer, Vladimir Putin, to the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

The Cuban president attended this morning the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the eternal flame in memory of those fallen, very close to the Kremlin Walls, together with other foreign heads of State.

According to reports, the leaders of almost 30 countries and leaders of international organizations posed for a collective photograph. The Cuban president occupied one of the places at the platform devoted for top-level guests, during the parade at Red Square, the most important event in the celebrations for the victory, after the defeat of Nazi Germany and the surrender of then militarist Japan, on May 9, 1945.

In his third visit to Russia as president (previously in 2009 and 2012), Raul Castro was welcomed by Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev and held talks with Putin at the Kremlin yesterday, an opportunity that was also good for a working meeting between both Government delegations.

At the end of the military parade, the foreign leaders and heads of official delegations, besides the accredited diplomatic corps, attended a reception by the Russian president at the Grand Kremlin Palace.

For the first time, after the military parade, members of the Immortal Regiment marched past Red Square, an initiative seeking perpetuating the memory of all those who contributed in one way or another to achieve victory.

Hundreds of activists and relatives were carrying the photographs of well-known and unknown heroes. The march by the Immortal Regiment was approved by Putin recently in a special decree.
