European lawmakers condemn blockade, bet on friendship with Cuba
He criticized the right wing, which is biased against Cuba ‘without having being there’, and noted the commitment of the group, established on February 19, to promote ‘Cuba’s real image, what the blockade is and the people who are suffering and we know why’.
Moreno thanked his colleagues for their confidence in electing him president, and said that following the path of those who have kept it alive is an honor.
For her part, Iratxe Garcia pointed out that the US blockade is a measure that suffocates the Cuban economy and is responsible for a situation that can be mitigated, in some way, with relations with Europe.
The two European lawmakers visited Cuba last week, as part of a delegation from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (known as S&D), the second major political force in the European Parliament.
Ambassador Goicochea expressed gratitude for the group’s solidarity and repeated Cuba’s willingness to maintain a relation of dialogue and cooperation with the European Union.
