Helms-Burton Law, US Government Frustration, Cuban President Asserts
Havana, Apr 27 ( Prensa Latina ) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said Saturday the Helms-Burton law expresses the frustration of U.S. governments over 60 years of failed policies against Cuba.He also asserted that sovereign nations will never accept the order of archaic Cold War strategies ‘that pressure, threaten, insult, lie and dirty the entire foreign policy of that northern nation with unscrupulous actions’.
The United States offends sovereign nations by calling them accomplices to its imperial policy. They are now going against Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, as they were in the past against Iraq, Libya and Syria. Who else in the future?’ the Head of State asked.
His statements come at a time when the White House is increasing its hostility against the nations and pushing for new sanctions.
The Cuban President has repeatedly denounced Washington’s constant violations, aggressions and humiliations to the peace and sovereignty of the States.
Havana rejects such actions and considers them a clear advance towards a course of confrontation with Cuba, using as a spearhead the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed almost six decades ago.
Last April 17, Donald Trump’s administration reinforced the blockade with the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, a chapter committing to economic suffocation as an instrument for regime change.
He also said he would increase travel restrictions for Americans to Cuba and limit remittances sent by Cubans residing in the United States to their families.
