MN: Mon. July 20: Rally supporting Official opening of US and Cuba Embassies

Official opening of US and Cuba Embassies

On Monday, July 20 the American and Cuban flags will fly high in the US Embassy in Havana, and in the Cuba Embassy in Washington D.C. marking the re-establishing of diplomatic relations and permanent diplomatic missions, which were broken in 1961.

This is an important step forward in the process of improving relations between the two countries initiated last December. “
We don’t have to be imprisoned by the past,” said President Obama. “When something isn’t working, we can and should change.”

On June 30, 2015, President Raul Castro of Cuba sent a letter to the White House saying that “in making this decision, the United States is encouraged by the reciprocal intention to develop respectful and cooperative relations between both countries, respect for equal rights and self-determination of peoples, non-interference in the internal affair of States, and promotion and encouragement of respect for human rights and fundamental freedom for all.”

The Minnesota Cuba Committee will celebrate the embassies opening by holding a rally on Monday, July 20, from 4 to 6 pm, in the intersection of 11th Avenue and Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis.
Come and celebrate with us to show your solidarity with our sister nation, Cuba.
