Mon. Sept. 17, 10-12, Twitter Storm for Cuba. World Against the Blockade!

The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) calls on all people and friends who defend peace as a human right, to join next Monday, Sept. 17, from 10 am (EDT) to 12 noon, the Twitter Storm and online forum, “THE WORLD AGAINST THE BLOCKADE”, which is part of the campaign, “We have Memory: Solidarity vs. the Blockade and Terrorism”, from Sept. 4 to Oct. 6, 2018.

In its annual report on the damage caused to Cuba by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States 60 years ago, the Foreign Ministry points out that the US administration “established a serious setback on bilateral relations” after the official resumption in 2015 under the governments of Barack Obama and Raúl Castro. That is because in 2017 Trump signed the “National Security Presidential Memorandum on Strengthening the Policy of the United States Toward Cuba”, a document that implied the tightening of the blockade.

For our country, this US policy is a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of the entire Cuban people and qualifies as an act of genocide, under the 1948 Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry report, which supports a draft resolution proposed by Cuba to the General Assembly of the United Nations on the need to end the blockade, estimated in $933,678,000,000 dollars the damages for that policy over 60 years.

On October 31, the UN General Assembly will vote again on a draft resolution proposed by Cuba on the need to end the blockade. It will be the 27th consecutive year in which the voting of the initiative takes place. Since 1992, it has won the majority support annually in the UN General Assembly, the main deliberative organ of the United Nations. Last year’s 2017 vote only registered opposition from the United States and Israel.
