Please see the Action Plan that follows as referenced in the National Network On Cuba co-chair report dated 5/17/15. The action plan was presented, discussed, and amended at the NNOC/ICAP meeting in Havana, Cuba on April 29, 2015.
ACTION PLAN
The objective of this meeting is to reinforce the work we have done up to now and develop better and more effective ways to end the blockade through education, advocacy and action. We are proposing an action plan that includes but is not limited to:
- That we recognize the 17th of every month with an action focusing on the blockade including contacting elected officials, use of media resources, public events, etc.
- Continue to participate in and present and distribute information at gatherings such as the Social Forum, Left Forum, School of the Americas, environmental marches, anti-war demonstrations, conferences, etc.
- Expand solidarity and links with social movements in the U.S. including anti-repression and police terror, mass incarceration, freedom for the many political prisoners, Black Lives Matter, immigrant rights, the fight for $15/hour and a union, and working class struggles.
- Educate around the Cuban reality, expose and denounce U.S. regime change schemes, demand the closure of the military base/prison at Guantanamo and return the territory to Cuba, continue to work in solidarity with the Latin American and Caribbean integration advanced by CELAC Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, UNASUR Union of south American Nations, ALBA Bolivarian Alliance for the people of our America, CARICOM, Petro Caribe; reinforce our support for and denounce the U.S. subversion of the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela.
- Support independence and sovereignty of Puerto Rico, including freedom for Oscar Lopez Rivera and others. Support the May 30, 2015 Free Oscar mobilization in New York City.
- Demand the end of regime change policy against Cuba and elsewhere.
- Utilize resources of recently published books about the Cuban reality and U.S. policy including inviting authors to present at public events.
- Utilize official documents and speeches made by Cuban officials between December 17, 2014 and the VII Summit of the Americas, as well as future statements.
- Continue to support the Pastors for Peace Caravan, Venceremos Brigade and all travel challenges.
- Welcome and encourage ELAM graduates and others who have studied in Cuba to share their experiences in Cuba.
- Encourage individuals and groups who have traveled to Cuba to continue to work in solidarity with Cuba.
- Invite Cuban including elected officials and representatives of various sectors of Cuban society to participate in public events.
- Use the example of the U.S. policy that still requires that Cuban baseball players defect and renounce their Cuban citizenship in order to play in the U.S. major leagues to expose the lack of l change to the blockade.
The basic principle upon which the National Network on Cuba was founded and continues is respect for the right of self-determination and sovereignty of Cuba.
