Russia and Cuba as Example of Cooperation and Friendship
Moscow, May 5 (Prensa Latina) The relations between Russia and Cuba constitute an example today, with a solid basement, on friendship and mutual sympathy, said Serguei Naryshkin, president of the Russian Duma Tuesday.
Naryshkin is officially visiting Havana for his first time as president of the Russian Lower Chamber, a post he got in 2011, in ocassion of the 55 years of the reestablishment of the diplomatic relations between both countries.
Naryshkin commented the friendship between Russia and Cuba has allowed constructive relations, and the mutual sympathy from many years ago, is reflected in the years of relations.
“There was never an obstacle for Russia to see the development of the life of the Cuban people and the destiny of Cuba as a nation. There was not the lack of the Russian support to the aspiration of Cuba to preserve its freedom and independence,” he said.
“This year we celebrate the 55th anniversary of the reestablishment of the Cuban-Russian relations, which were interrupted between 1952 and 1960.
And also highlighted the dynamism of Russian-Cuban links in the past 20 years, covering a wide range of cooperation, including political contacts at the highest level to projects in the economic, tourism and culture .
Naryshkin appreciated the momentum that can give the parliaments of the two countries on bilateral trade and investment for mutual benefit.
On the conclusion of such a significant date for Russia and the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism, Naryshkin told the agency that his country respects and honors the victors, who defended the independence of the Soviet Union, Europe and the world. It’s a great date, without doubt, a big historical event, and of course, the 70th anniversary jubilee has special meaning for us, he said.
He emphasized the fact that the Soviet liberators defended not only the Soviet Union but that liberated Europe and the world from the Nazi yoke.
Naryshkin regretted that the crisis of confidence exacerbated in recent times in international relations between governments and peoples “print a mark on the atmosphere around the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of victory”.
He deplored the US pressure on leaders of a number of countries to reject the invitation to attend the celebrations in Moscow, in an unprecedented boycott this sacred universal event.
