Chosen family, solidarity, and the Divine Beauty of Revolutionary Spirit that binds us

The revolutionary spirit is a powerful presence. I feel the warmth and embrace of our revolutionary ancestors who are no longer with us. Their words continue to resonate and echo around the world. The memory of the affection they shared before leaving their homes, took to the streets to fight for a better world, serves as a vital reminder for us to continue on that same path of struggle with strength. It is a call to love ourselves, our friends, our comrades, and our families, but most of all, to honor the revolutionary spirit within us all.

During my first experience with the May Day Brigade in Cuba in 2024, I came to understand—deeply—the importance of belonging: to a new movement, a shared comradeship, and ultimately, a new family. And yes—of course—we carry our own political differences. Oh boy, do we. Yet despite them, what I witnessed was something powerful: immense hope taking shape through collective work. In those moments, the possibility of a better society—and a better world—felt not abstract, but real and within reach. So much, I can almost touch it, feel it in my soul.

Since that time in Cuba, my relationship with these comrades—now family—has grown. I still remember many of them, even those with whom I have lost contact. Life often takes us on different paths, and while many are called, few are chosen. I remain hopeful that those who have moved on may one day return to the struggle, or perhaps they are simply fighting on a different front, whether in solidarity with Palestine or Venezuela, or against this brutal systemic injustice in general: Imperialism.

My heart goes out to each and every one of those standing in defiance of U.S. aggression against Cuba. Every one of them has my full support—and, more importantly, my deepest respect. I pray that this feeling, the one that sustains me and gives my life direction, never fades. I pray that this fire endures until the very end of my days.

One thing remains certain: the divine beauty of the revolutionary spirit is stronger than ever.
