Voices from several countries repudiate US hostility against Cuba
HAVANA, Cuba, May 19 (acn) Voices from around the world join today in rejecting the hostile attitude of the United States government against Cuba and condemn the campaign to discredit the Caribbean island’s medical collaboration with other nations.
The Italy-Cuba National Friendship Association joined the proposal to consider the Henry Reeve International Doctors Contingent for the Nobel Peace Prize for their global response to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic, reported Prensa Latina (PL) news agency.
The organization highlights the “preparation, competence and specialization” of Cuban doctors to help countries that request it, not only in the context of the current health situation, but on previous occasions such as the Ebola epidemic in Africa.
According to PL, there are people from United States who try to establish cooperation agreements with Cuba in the sector of science and health.
A resolution introduced in the legislature of the American state of Minnesota calls for medical and scientific collaboration with Cuba to face the effects of the new coronavirus and allow import of Recombinant Interferon Alpha-2B, a Cuban drug to more effectively combat COVID-19.
On the other hand, professor and social activist Carlos Moncada, who heads the Association of the Community of Cuban Residents in Angola, said that while most states seek to cooperate in the current circumstances, Washington encourages hatred and aggression against the Caribbean island.
In this sense, the Swiss-Cuba Association condemned the attitude of the press such as the French-speaking subsidiary of Swiss Radio Television (RTS), which issued a program in which discredited Cuban medical collaboration in other countries.
The Swiss organization added that the US Congress approved $ 120 million between 2017 and 2019 and $ 32 million this year to finance defamatory campaigns against Cuba.
In midst of the international health crisis and while 26 Cuban medical brigades have been helping to stop the pandemic in 24 countries, the White House has maintained its policy of economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean island for 60 years.
In this regard, the Latin American Parliament (PARLATINO) stated that solidarity and humanitarian law demand the immediate suspension of any type of limitation imposed on countries and communities and the transformation of those limitations into actions of mutual support.
In addition, from Havana, the Interreligious Platform of Cuba and the Buddhist movement Soka Gakkai rejected the recent attack on the Cuban embassy in the US capital and the inclusion of the Caribbean nation in the list of alleged countries that “do not collaborate with the fight against terrorism. “
